Participation in JOTA October 19-21 – Joe K2JVS
There was much discussion at the meeting regarding inviting the Girl Scouts. No one was willing to do that. Further, lack of operators (and equipment) in that polling of the members at the meeting showed no one able to give a firm commitment for that weekend. Finally, Lack of toilet facilities. - Last year we were given special permission to use the unisex bathroom in the Parish Center. This is fine for the small group we had, and we knew there were no issues with ADA access. We cannot invite the public beyond the Troop 108 members if we are not able to provide ADA bathroom facilities. The desire to have this be a public access event has been stressed at several meetings. We cannot get access to the main building, and even if we could, we don't have people to monitor the inside of that building when the public is going in and out. There are many requirements as there is a tenant there (Benway School) in addition to the Church youth protection policies.
Of necessity, the decision was made to cancel the Club’s participation in JOTA. If we are going to do this in the future, then we would have to either solve the above issues at this facility which may be possible, or move it somewhere, like the Hospital or the NNJC building in Oakland.
Notwithstanding, the radio merit badge initiative will move forward. Jack, KB2LNO and Joe, K2JVS will work out the details.
ARES/RACES Drill – Mike KD2NCN
Mike, KD2NCN, presented an excellent plan for a RACES/ARES structured radio exercise based on a flood scenario. The planned date is Saturday, October 13. Mike has laid out the member/station deployment locations (augmenting the footprint of the OEM and first responders). Voice messages (IC-213 format) have been drafted for drill use. Mike is handing off his plan for implementation by Dave, K2NEC. Dave is taking the lead on organizing this ARES/RACES net and being the NCS. An Incident Commander structure will be established. Message traffic will be handled via voice Request for status Information (RI - conditions, flood levels, stranded residents, etc.) on behalf of the Incident Commander. Deployed stations will respond with required Responses to these Requests for Information (RRI).
Open Chair position which requires a volunteer is: Program Chair (meeting programs) still required. Aly, AL0Y, came forward with programs for this meeting and for the October meeting. Thank you, Aly!
