Scouting Radio Merit Badge and the Communications Merit Badge – Jim N2RBJ
We are a go so far for conducting the scout Radio Merit Badge Class. The flyer went out to local units and
the workbook draft. Jim is still finalizing the PowerPoint presentation we will use for the class.
Jim would like to collect names of volunteers who wish to be instructors. He will need at least three
plus himself. Each volunteer must take Youth Protection Training from the BSA. It is done on-line
at no cost and is good for two years. You can register here: https://my.scouting.org/ and take the
course (about 20 minutes). You will be issued a printable PDF.
We can discuss printing of class material (the attached workbook). This should be done later when I
have an idea of the size of the roster.
Jim has applied for the call sign W2S for the class station and the required QSO's the scouts will
Other volunteers are needed to be scheduled on the club repeater with the class. I plan on setting
up a basic dual band mobile, power supply and mag-mount antenna as the class station. Jim will
send an email to members requesting volunteers for repeater contacts.
ARES/RACES Drill – Mike KD2NCN
Mike is working with the CERT commander to conduct a joint drill sometime in September.
Ham Fest – John KC2OII
KC2OII, John, contacted Dave Schwartz, Camp Veritans, who agreed to holding our first Ham Fest there. Dave is the
Camp’s Chairman of the Board. The rental is $500. We can have the mess hall for our indoor ham fest and an open
area further up as usual. Also, we have use of the same building, but now air-conditioned, for cooking, etc. .
Further discussion took place regarding the risk of a startup situation and potential liability serving food.
John opposes the use of a “food truck’ to cater the affair. However, John will prepare a financial pro forma statement
for presentation at the next meeting for further discussion of financial risk as a startup. He also envisions a 50/50
Field Day 2019 Discussion
Jim, N2RBJ, will secure the call sign W2W for Field Day 2020.

Mayor/Council recognition of WRAET Club – Joe K2JVS
Joe not at the meeting. Joe is moving forward with Township Legal and with the Council for approval with the same
benefits and legal alignment as currently exists with Wayne C.E.R.T. KD2NCN, Mike, moving forward with Captain
Daly and Captain McDermott to achieve close collaboration between C.E.R.T and WRAET.
EchoLink proposal to Wayne OEM for funding – Mike KD2NCN
EchoLink proposal has been submitted to the OEM Director.
Special Event Station – KC2OII, John, contacted the Dey Mansion regarding a Special Event Station. The contact
turned out to be a ham. He received permission from their Board of Directors. They discussed scheduling the event
on Presidents Day, February 2020. John will initiate promotion of the event. ARRL QST Magazine will be one of
them. He will also send out an email to members requesting volunteers to operate at the Dey Mansion site.
Jim, N2RBJ, will obtain the call sign W2W for the event.

PROGRAM – August Meeting – No proposed program. No program Chair. Hudson Division Assistant Director Bill
Hudzik W2UDT will be the speaker at the October 11. K2JVS, Joe, is proposing a presentation at a future meeting on
Club Log software. Among other things, it takes Log Book of the World and checks against DXCC and other award
requirements. Steve, KD2PJK, is working on a proposed program and will advise.
